An Introduction to Civility

This introductory session takes the form of a discussion between Martin Crump and Chris Turner on civility. Chris shares a story about how easily we can misunderstand each other, some examples of the benefits of civility, and how to create an environment where people feel able to contribute and share ideas. The session finishes off with a summary of what you’ll get out of the full Civility Builds Excellence course.

The Value of Active Listening

A 10-minute microlearning course on the value and importance of active listening.

We’ll look at why active listening matters, what the benefits are – to you and those you interact with – and how to be an active listener.

Have a look at our other Microlearning courses here.

How to Be an Active Listener

Active listening – as opposed to passive listening – shows the person you’re listening to (whether they’re presenting, in a group, or you’re having a one-on-one discussion) that you’re engaged, interested, and taking in what they’re saying. If you’re having an important conversation, showing you’re actively listening will make the other person feel more positive about the discussion – which means a better outcome all round.
